This is a tumblelog, kinda like a blog but with short-form, mixed-media posts with stuff I like. Scroll down a bit to start reading, or a bit more to read more about me.

HEY, EVERYONE!
We’re not sure how many people are still really following POTTER COLOURS when we went on an unannounced and indefinite hiatus back in February (!!), but we’re sort of back now! Unfortunately, we won’t be posting or commentating on issues as intensely as we used to, as we — as in the person who runs this tumblr — is not in the Harry Potter fandom as much these days, as well as being less involved in anti-racism on the site or personal reasons. (But for those of you still fighting the good fight out there, rock on forever — we still believe in fighting against discrimination and privilege and support those of you who call people out and educate even when it’s not your job to do it.) And general not having as much time to be online anymore due to real life.
That said, we still have ridiculous amounts of material saved in drafts to post, as well as months and months worth of new content since we went on hiatus. So there will definitely still be updates every once in awhile, and we hope to see you all around again! It’s good to be back in some way.

I guess I wanted to draw Fred and Roxanne actually looking like bi-racial kids. Also I have no idea what houses they’re in so they’re just wearing grey robes/Quidditch gear, lololol too lazy to find out ahaha.
NEXT-GEN DREAMCAST:
Antonia Thomas as Roxanne Weasley.“She pretty much runs the whole sodding school.”
Nice try, but it’s still racist and white-washing (though Hailee is part-Filipina and therefore mixed-race, but that’s not even close to being Black and she passes/codes as white in films), and ‘We care about race, but we just happened to see a white person as being perfect for the role!’ is an excuse used over and over again everywhere to justify erasing POC from everything. So no cookies for effort here.
I can see quite clearly what other black Harry Potter fans are saying when they think whitewashing is occurring. I looked it up and it says Zayn is of Pakistani descent. It was a nice attempt, but I would still prefer if people would stop picking white/super light skinned actors with straight black hair and thinking that makes them look like a child of African descent.
I’ve heard people just say they wanted to portray Fred II with red hair and white skin because it would be a nice tribute to his uncle. Some mixed people do turn out looking completely like one parent, but why doesn’t anyone want to make them look more like Angelina? Dark skin, braids, curly hair, dreds, black facial features. None of these things seem to be an option for half the fandom. It would be nice to look at the headcanon and fiction and see a character who looks kind of like me. I understand no one is trying to be racist, but it excludes what’s already a very small minority of people in the series.
Whenever I do my first artwork of the next generation kids, Roxanne and Fred II are going to be black and beautiful. And sure they can have freckles, but I’m not going anywhere near that peach color for skin, or bright red hair. Whitewashing is a real issue in literature, television and film and I’d prefer it not seep into this fandom.
